Crucifixion and Resurrection, Devotional

PASSION WEEK: DAY 6 – GOOD FRIDAY – THE TRIAL #3.

THE VERDICT & PETER’S DENIALS.

While Jesus was temporarily imprisoned at the High Priest’s court, the Sanhedrin arrived at a decision.

All the Jewish elders, including the High Priest, scribes and whole Sanhedrin decided they had a festival to officiate, and so they needed someone to do their dirty job for them, while they carried on with their religious observance – the Passover and the Sabbath.

They decide to ask the Roman government to kill Jesus.

We read in Mark 15: 1 – Early in the morning, the chief priests, elders, scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin devised a plan. They bound Jesus, led Him away, and handed Him over to Pilate.

And talking about Peter… while he followed Jesus through the trials in the dark, he continued to deny ever knowing Jesus.

He denied Jesus in the court of Annas when confronted by the servant girl watching the door.

He denied Jesus in Caiaphas’ court while he was warming himself among the High Priest’s servants.

And while the Sanhedrin were determining Jesus’s fate, he was confronted by those standing and told: :your accent gave you away”. But He denied Jesus again anyways, and swore at them.

And then it was daybreak. Because it was after all these events and right after Peter’s third denial of Jesus,  that the roster (cock) crowed!
